Jorge's Biography



Originally from Ecuador, Latin Percussionist Jorge Jimenez came to New York in 1975 and 1979 immediately began performing with local groups. During his years in New York, Jorge has performed with numerous musicians and groups, including Charlie Palmieri, Raulin Rosendo, Grupo FacinaciÛn, Ray Santos orquesta, Orquesta Broadway, Johnny Pacheco, Pete el Conde Rodriguez,Papo Pepin y su orquesta,Eddie Martinez, and Junior Gonzalez. Since 2000, Jorge has used his percussion skills to play in every genre from Classical, Off-Broadway, jazz, and Latin Jazz to African, Brazilian, Cuban, Funk, and R&B. His mastery on all Latin percussion instruments can be heard on CD's as Metrotang’s “Lights Out,” where he is the featured performer on congas, bongos, and timbales. Other recordings include “Wiggle Stomp” by Vibraphonist Mike Freeman, featuring solos by Jorge Jimenez on the title cut and great ensemble work on congas throughout. On the classical side, Jorge is featured on Carolyn Steinberg’s CD “Songs, Dances, Duos” on the composition entitled “Baroque Dance Suite.” His discography also includes “New York Salsa” by Orquesta Universal with Grammy-nominated vocalist David Oquendo, legendary pianist Edy Martinez and trumpet virtuoso Richie Vitale. Since 2004, Jorge has performed and held residencies in numerous schools, for the New York City Department of Education (high schools Adlai Stevenson, Wingate, International Arts and Business, and Middle Schools C.I.S.219; and C.I.S.148), and at the college level for New York University, Manhattan School of Music, and Mannes College of Music of the New School.
